Personal Reflection

The making of this website was a really great experience for me. I am almost done with the Dune book series at this point and I am kind of sad to be leaving Frank’s SCIFI Universe: Dune. I have never properly organized my thoughts about the series and this website provided that opportunity. I think making this website made me better understand the series and do critical thinking about what ideas I had taken away from it’s characters. I hope this website peeks someone’s interest in the series I hold so dear.

A Quick Detour

This post is A Quick Detour into the Dune TV Series that just released on MAX: Dune Prophecy. The reason I want to talk about this show is because I think it’s important to clarify that this series won’t reflect the quality of the next Dune movie. Dune Messiah will be directed by Denis and this Dune show was not. The truth is the Dune Prophecy was a mixed bag in terms of the quality. I really enjoyed some scenes, but others felt very awkward. This show is actually a spin off of the Brain Hebert books which are somewhat separate from the original series. All of this is to say that hopefully the next Dune movie will be a far cry from the quality of the recently released show.

Filming Summer 2025?

It looks like as of two weeks from today, the narrative going around is that filming for Dune Messiah will start this summer (2025)! This is exciting news for fans of the books and the movies! It is likely we won’t hear much in terms of updates until then, as Denis Villeneuve will likely be busy with Dune and the various other projects he is currently associated with.

“Per the outlet, Villeneuve plans to shoot the third film this summer, so long as talent availabilities line up.”

A Difficult Adaptation

The tough part of a Dune Messiah adaptation…

The tough part of a creating a good Dune Messiah adaptation is mainly in the pacing and characters involved in the plot of the book.

Dune Messiah focuses primarily on the plot to assassinate Paul Atreides. The book contains less action compared to the first book, and most of the violence that occurred during Paul’s rise to power are mentioned as part of a history that has already occurred for it’s characters. Additionally, movie goers will only recognize two of the conspirators. The princess Irulan and the Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit.

Edric (A Guild Steersman) and Scytale (A Tleilaxu Face Dancer) represent new characters both in name and what they can accomplish with their genetic adaptations. This element of the characters may throw some people off and make the film feel more SCFI than the other films. Of course Dune has always been SCFI, but the first two movies don’t have much focus on the genetic manipulation that is occurring elsewhere in the Dune Universe.

The Writing Zone

Writing is going well!

Denis Villeneuve is looking to create what will hopefully be the stunning conclusion his Dune trilogy. Currently the director is in the writing stage and will likely enter the filming stage soon (maybe even 2025!) It has been clear through the first two films that Denis is one of the most involved and visionary directors of these last two decades.

The Release Date

Report From Feb. 4th

The most recent update from Gamesradar stated that there are currently no real confirmations about the release date of the third Dune movie. While we may have confirmation that the movie WILL exist, I would wager to guess we have at least two years before returning to the Dune Cinematic Universe.

“Despite some reports to the contrary, there is actually no Dune 3 release date just yet. Denis Villeneuve initially said that he was planning to wait a few years before returning to Arrakis, but late backtracked on this.”

Why Dune Messiah?

Despite this website functioning as a Informational space about the Dune universe It is also my goal as a fan to create interest and traction for the film series. Despite some mixed opinions about Dune Prophecy’s premiere on MAX, I think as Dune fans, more new content is always a good thing.
